Group, Highlander Insurance Services opened
June of 2003 as a full-service independent agency.
We serve Western North Carolina in general, and Buncombe,
Haywood and Henderson counties in particular. Our
flagship carrier is The Erie Insurance Group. We
provide home, auto, commercial and life insurance along with
health and many additional supporting lines.
Highlander was founded by David and Elizabeth
Cameron. After twenty-seven years in business
in Rock Hill, South Carolina, we sold our agency and moved
back home to our native mountains.
We were familiar with The Erie Insurance Group
but did not know that the company had expanded to North Carolina.
When a good friend recommended us to Erie, our respect for
him and for Erie’s reputation in the industry required
that we take an honest look.
We liked what we saw. We found a company
with a well-deserved reputation for service and a corporate
culture refreshingly focused on people. A small company attitude
with a big company (Fortune 500) impact! In short we found
a fiscally sound insurance carrier that can and will back
up our special commitment to our customers.
In May of 2008 Highlander Insurance Services merged
with Robert Ownbey Insurance, becoming part of the Robert
Ownbey Insurance Group. Robert (Robbie) Ownbey, also an Erie
agent, has served the insurance needs of our community for
over five years and is very similar in his approach and attitude
toward taking care of our customers. The goal of the combined
agency is to give our clients better resources and attention.
This provides our insureds with the exceptional
care and concern that David and Elizabeth and Robbie
have for our clients...plus an insurance carrier, Erie Insurance
Group, rated as one of the top three in the nation
for customer service. Our customers feel this is
a winning combination. We hope you will too!
Our office hours are by appointment, Monday through Saturday
and we still do house calls!

How to get here...
We are conveniently located close to Interstate
40 and are also within easy reach of Interstate
26.
FROM
I-40:
Heading West from Asheville, Black Mountain, I-26,
Arden, take exit 44.
The exit ramp ends at a traffic light. Turn right at
the light onto Smoky Park Highway. Turn right at the
fourth light onto Asbury Road. (This is known locally
as the Enka light.) There will be a gas station on the
corner. Our office is in a two story store building
on the left. The stairs are on the left. We are up the
stairs and in the first office on the left.
Note: If you are headed East on I-40 (coming
from Waynes-ville, Canton, Candler, take exit
44 as above, but you will turn right
at the light onto Smoky Park Highway. Continue on the
third light, which will be
a right turn on to Asbury Road.

From either direction, Take the exit to I-40 West.
Continue West on I-40 to exit 44. The exit ramp ends
